In Iran, Before the revolution in 1979, The woman and men had practiced public segregation of the sexes. Woman generally practiced use of the veil when in public or when males not related to them were in the house. The gender segregation was enforced in all iranian primary and secondary schools following the islamic revolution of 1979. However in universities male and female students attend class together but in different rows of chairs.
Woman would work outside of their household because their incomes were needed to support their household. In iran the men were most likely to be ready to enter the war because its something the men had to do. And that also like Persepolis. There were young men entering the war with keys on their neck and they said the keys were keys to paradise which was for poor people. thousands of young kids, promised a better life, exploded on the minefields with their keys around their neck.
All of this relates to Persepolis because in 1980 Marjane was 10 years old and they were forced to wear the veil at school and bye the look on their faces they dont' like the veil as much but they were forced to wear it at school. some of the girls didn't care but 10 year old marji hated the veil because it was'nt something that she had worn before.
